Brooklyn Art Project Feature

I’m really excited because I was just emailed by the person who hosts the Brooklyn Art Project blog. He said, “Erica, this is a beautiful piece, I just featured it up on brooklynartproject.com blog. 🙂 http://brooklynartproject.typepad.com/my_weblog/2007/07/beautiful-prete.html
Thanks for sharing this, it’s great having you as a member.

Oooh how I love unsolicited kudos. :))

Relatively Settled

It’s been a while. I have been spending more time out experiencing my new city of New York than sitting home blogging about it. Time to balance it out a bit.

For those of you who don’t know, I moved to NYC May 2nd. I actually road tripped across the country from California on April 1st. Stayed with friends in Long Island while I found a place to live, then officially moved into an artist loft in Brooklyn on May 2nd. From then until now I’ve been going everywhere, meeting new people, trying out different restaurants, seeing live music, and of course working.

There are 15 bedrooms on my floor. It’s quite a large floor though. There are two kitchens, 3 bathrooms, community dining areas and hang out spaces, a patio which isn’t built yet and an art gallery which also isn’t built yet. Almost all of us get along fabulously. I’ll post some pics of that eventually.

Meanwhile, here’s the first of my Brooklyn series. Vinny and Pablo are two of my new roommates. They are lovely. Vinny is a painter and quite a well-known model, Pablo is a musician and well-known writer in Spain. More to come.

Love, Erica XO

Going Home

Well, it’s finally happening.  I’m moving back east to NYC.

I couldn’t be more excited.  One of my friends asked me today if I was nervous.  I thought about it, because it seems I should be…or maybe just that I would expect myself to be.  And I looked at her, even surprising myself with my own answer, and said “No actually.  Not one little bit.”  This is the right move for me, it’s natural for me to be on the east coast.  I’ve wanted to for a long time.  I have lots of friends and family waiting for me, a place to stay while I find an apartment.  There seems to be no counter-intention anywhere…internally or externally…in doing this.  And I know it will all turn out ok.

I have a new agent, too.  My friend, Brandon, is going to be handling my west coast art shows.  At least until he moves to NY next year.  Then we intend to take over the world as the awesome creative duo that we are.

So that’s the news.  I hope you feel briefed.  I will keep you posted as this all progresses.

XO Erica

PS:  I TOTALLY did not take that photo up there.  I just posted it there for effect because it’s freaking RAD.  I did, however, take the ones below…

Holy Hell the new “ModBook” Mac Tablet!!!

Well, it looks like all our bitching, moaning and petitioning is finally starting to pay off! I just received a press release in my email last night from Axiotron about the first and only Mac Tablet, now available from Macsales.com. It’s brand new, of course extremely pricey, but it’s made, it uses Wacom technology and runs on OS X. And it looks like this…

The Razzies

Got invited by my friend, Fred, to go to the Razzie Awards last night. So that’s what I did. That was definitely entertaining, despite the fact that they just diss EVERYTHING IN THE WORLD. But I suppose that’s a nice balance from the way everything at the awards tonight will be spoken of with total love and admiration, as though it/he/she/ is the most fantastic creation in the history of ever.

The Razzies intro looked something like this…

And before that was a great and quite large Magritte exhibition, full of his paintings as well as those of other artists who, overtly or covertly, admire or emulate Magritte.

Then an amazing dinner at Figaro Cafe on Vermont. It truly feels like France. And since I was with actually eating there WITH someone French it was like I fit into a french scenario…for once. Noone sneered at me about my lack of French speaking skills or my awful pronunciation. And oh the food was great. And of course, creme brulee at the end. And Orlando Bloom was there for a minute, too. Just a good day overall, wouldn’t you say?

What My Show Actually Looks Like

I finally made it down to the Whittier Law Library to take photos of the actual display.  It looks really different with the display tiles than just the original paintings, so I thought you might like to see it.  Or not.  Either way, I’m SHOWING you!  XO Erica

This is “Where the History Comes From” with the display tile I made to go behind it.  Whoever can guess correctly why I named it that will win something COOL!!!  *Disclaimer:  You can’t be someone who I already told.

This one is called “Pretense” and it was sold opening night.

For some stupid reason, this window isn’t letting me type above this painting only below it.  So ok…this one is called “Walking Away” it has acrylics, nail polish, ink, and spray paint all over it.  Fun!!!  Ok more to come… XO Erica

Art Show Update

Thank you all sooo much for coming to my art show last night and showing your support. I had a wonderful time and hopefully you all did too. I got very positive feedback from a lot of people and I found the whole experience very encouraging and satisfying.

This is only my second solo show, and the first one that I sold a painting opening night. So that makes me happy. Here’s a pic of the one that sold:

Thanks again! XO Erica

One More Day…

The opening is tomorrow. I’ve gotten all the paintings done, all display tiles done, all paper work, promotion and marketing that I could possibly do done. Brandon helped me tons and will be working with me throughout the installation and hanging til the end. It’s so good to have a friend like that to help.

Oh yeah, one more thing I did. Couple days ago I made a website to go along with my BUMMER painting, since it’s become so popular. It’s BummerArmy.com. It’s far from perfect, I have more and better designs to create for the tshirts and stuff, but it’s something and I did it myself in mostly one day. So I’m kind of proud of that.

Here’s one of the stickers that I ordered and which will HOPEFULLY be here by tomorrow.

What else? I dropped my brand new camera on the porch 2 days ago and it stopped working instantly. Lucky for me I’m only a couple miles from the gigantic CANON service building place. They fixed it, replaced the motherboard and had it back to me in less than 24 hours. For FREE. Even the guy working at the counter was surprised about that. He was looking at the paperwork and did the eyebrow thing, but tried to make it look like he didn’t. And then he said “Okayyy” like he was actually confused by it. I just told him it’s the perks of stardom. No no no I said no such thing. Ok enough of this chatter, I have a show to prepare for. More soon.

XO Erica
